BIEDERMAN WINS IN CLOSE DECISION OVER CEREZAL IN HISTORIC INTERNATIONAL DUCKPIN EVENT

Team USA’s John Biederman captured the first-ever Inter-Continental Duckpin Bowling Challenge championship for TEAM USA in a grueling, best of 3 game contest over Argentina star, Gerardo Cerezal.

Cerezal was the overall pinfall leader for the 27-game, week-long tournament, and was true to form in Game 1 over Biederman, 150-129.  But Biederman bounced back in Game 2 to oust Cerezal 143-128.  In the deciding game, Biederman got the early lead and stayed strong on offensive, not allowing the Argentine champion to make up the difference.  Biederman posted a strong 169-135 victory to bring the title to the United States.

CEREZAL EDGES HIPKINS; CAPTURES IDBC TITLE FOR ARGENTINA IN SUSPENSE FILLED FINAL

Argentina’s Gerardo “Caito” Cerezal faced off against the top duckpinner in the United States, Bernie Hipkins in a classic finale to the second installment of the Inter-Continental Duckpin Bowing Challenge, held at White Oak Lanes in Silver Spring, Maryland.  Hipkins was the overall pinfall leader in the 23-game event between the 2 countries, while Cerezal was tops for Argentina for the second time in the IDBC event.  After Cerezal won Game 1 in a close encounter, both men tied the second and third games.  Hipkins won the Game 2 “two-frame” roll-off, and took a substantial lead in Game 3.  Cerezal remained poised, clawing his way to an eventual tie in Game 3, and came away with the win in the deciding tiebreaker.

The 2014 and 2017 Inter-Continental Duckpin Bowling Challenge events were historic competitions on a national level, as these were the first (and second) ever contests between Argentina and the United States to be hosted on American soil.  The 2014 inaugural event was a 7-day gathering with 10 stars on each team between the 2 countries.  The return encounter in 2017 featured teams of 8 players on each team.  Both events were held at White Oak Duckpin Lanes in Silver Spring, Maryland.
